Weight-loss advice needed

I have been suffering from years of depression and over eating. As a result, I am now 5' 7" and 280 lbs. I am miserable. Physically, emotionally, mentally. My joints ache, I take blood pressure medicine and Zoloft for depression/anxiety. Taking my kids to the movies has become something I dread because the theatre seats are now uncomfortable. I have tried every diet on the planet and have gone to the gym in the past. I think part of my problem is the years of overeating have stretched my stomach to the point that it takes a lot of food to fill me up. I am considering gastric bypass or Lapband. Has anyone else gone that route or know someone who has? I'm in my 30's and feel like 80. Something has to change.

Can you follow a recipe?

Go here:

Most of those recipes are easy to make, quick, and very tasty. Lots of good info on that site about most common foods as well. Try to eat six small meals a day. A meal can be an apple, a grapefruit, a chicken breast, nothing larger than the size of your first per meal. You'll never be hungry.

Also, you need to exercise. 30mins of treadmill per day should be enough for now.

Surgery is the easy way out and any invasive procedure is dangerous. Much more beneficial to just suck it up and be a little hungry all the time. And do lots of elliptical/biking since you have old man joints. It'll take longer than the surgery, but you'll be in better shape physically.

audition for biggest loser. surgery is a retarded solution, I know 2 people who have had it (lap band) both got skinny and are fat again. your only hope is a change in diet and exercise, maybe some lypo

Surgery isn't the easy way out. I have a friend who had it done--she was 320 lbs. They made her lose 50 lbs first, to prove that she was committed. After the surgery, it took her a year to get down to where she is now--165. She looks FANTASTIC. She's very active now--plays on the dodgeball league I'm on and goes skydiving once a month. She has to be very careful about what she eats and the portions, but it's been a life-changing thing for her, and I'm immensely proud of her.

My BIL's mother died of complications after getting the lapband. You're obviously not in good health, why would you further risk your health with a serious, invasive surgery?

Try Overeater's Anonymous, too.

The three things in common with some of the most successful weight-loss plans:
1) Weigh yourself every day (you'll be made painfully aware of every cruller you ate the day before, plus feel rewarded when you lose some weight...it's much more immediate feedback, especially when you stray from the plan).
2) Eat breakfast. This makes a reasonably-sized lunch possible instead of torture.
3) Work out with home equipment; if you have to drive somewhere to work out, you'll find excuses not to.

Ultimately you're going to have to make your decision and stick with it. The details are relatively unimportant.

If you are a guy the wieght loss will be easy, especially if you buy a few free weights and start lifting at home (20lb dumbbells, read on the Internets for proper usage / exercises). You can drop 20 lbs easily by working out 30 minutes on the arms. Once you start there, the rest can fall into place.

If you are a girl, your body is completely different. My only advice is to go to movie theaters with armrests that lift up.
