Career question for you corporate-types
(Making this A-DIT so it won't be an attention whore thread, I really want valid responses)
I find myself in a bit of a dilemma. I started with my current company 7 years ago when I was 20, started out entry level and now am a second level manager. About a year ago I was given many additional job responsibilities which includes me travelling 3 weeks out of the month, but no increase in pay or title - it's a sales managment position with a Fortune 50 company.
When I accepted the position 3 years ago the base salary was $55k plus a base bonus of $30k. First year bonus was 45k, second year was 35k, last year was 26k, and next year the bonus is being cut to 10% of my base salary which is now $60k.
The other people in my department (only 8 of us that do what I do, with the exact same responsibilities) all have base salaries of $75k-$85k plus the bonus of 10% of base. I asked my boss about a salary readjustment a year ago when I was given the additional responsibilities and he took it up the chain. It got approved at every level but HR because they weren't doing mid-cycle salary adjustments anywhere in the company.
My department has since changed reporting structure within the company and I was told that when we finish converting to the new structure my salary will be adjusted - they just don't know by how much or even when this will happen. The closest I've heard is "it's gonna be a while."
Meanwhile, I've been approached my other people within the company trying to get my services over on their side of things. The salary would be $75k plus $6k in auto allowance plus anywhere from $3k-7k per quarter in bonus. I basically have my pick of 4 different cities - Phoenix, Salt Lake, Baltimore, Virginia Beach AND I wouldn't have to travel anymore so I can actually see my wife every night.
When is it time to say when? Do I hold out like I've been doing for the past year? How do I approach this subject with my superiors without sounding like a douche and burning bridges?
Oh, and I LOVE my company and my job. I've got a ton of loyalty but I have to look out for the best interests of myself and my family (even if it is just the two of us and three cats)
Corporate types...any suggestions?

Look at other companies and how much others in comparable positions make and bring these facts to your boss. "I'm not making what I should be making. I also have an offer within the company that pulls in more than I make right now. You can see my position, right?"

Second, were they hired after you?
Third, maybe they just have better negotiating skills than you do.
Fourth, it's a pretty rare thing for anyone to be given any sort of pay raise right now.
Which is more important to you? Your pride, your salary, or keeping a job you love in a company you love?

Do you have a job? Do you have an income? Do you have stability? Are your bills and expenses being reasonably covered?
If you can say yes to all of the above, then have a Coke and a smile.

Nah, this is a figment of my imagination.
